The first sample is from a unit on E. Nesbit's The Story of the Treasure Seekers, for ages 9-12 - from CLASSIC STORIES.

The second sample is from a unit on Lillian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, for ages 11-14 - from GREAT DETECTIVES.

For both courses, you'll see:

'Week at a glance' - orients students every Monday to what's ahead

Monday: structured 'how's-everyone-doing?' discussion, and part 1 of a small group collaborative exercise

Tuesday: weekly joke or music-sharing thread, reading peer work from yesterday, and part two of the small group exercise

Thursday: 'looking ahead' outlines student work and reading for next week, two 'weekly side quests': a resource that gives students additional context for their current reading, and a just-for-fun social thread, and weekly writing assignment and accompanying checklist if needed.

Note: All our courses include monthly/weekly printable checklists, for students and parents/guardians to keep track of all reading and coursework; students also receive a printable 'reader's guide' for each novel. Students download weekly writing assignments as a .doc file, type directly on the file, and then copy and paste the whole page to submit. We walk them through this and all other tech tasks in fun exercises in the first week.
